These dances notes are meant as reminder directions only, and are not to be considered full or definitive directions to the dances. Final versions will be provided in the ball booklet received after registering.

We urge everyone to buy the books in which these fine contemporary choreographers have published their work, many of which are available at the CDSS Bookstore. * indicates a "For Those Who Know" dance. Instructions in red indicate a correction to the notes since the dance booklet was published.

Abbreviations and notes about the descriptions:

L and R are left and right, respectively
1s, 2s, 3s, refer to 1st couple, 2nd couple, 3rd couple, &c, in a set
Instructions with while indicate two actions occurring at the same time
Cpl is short for couple; likewise Cpls is couples.
M and W are man and woman, respectively (as in M1 for 1st man, or W3 for 3rd woman).

"R and L" or "Rights and lefts" implies hands; "circular hey" implies no hands.
All turns, circles, &c, are once around if not otherwise specified.
Turn singles with no specified direction may be done as the dancer wishes.
In duple minor dances, "1st Corners" always refers to the dancers first man and second woman.

A1	1s Mad Robin: 1s go CW around neighbor facing partner the entire time; 1s 2-hand turn half-way.
A2	2s Mad Robin: 2s go CW around neighbor facing partner the entire time; 2s 2-hand turn half-way.
B1	1st corners R-hand turn once 2nd corners L-hand turn once, into...
B2	Slipping circle of 4 R, and back L. Face corner, releasing hands.
C1	Slow set R & L. Circle R half-way (no hands), moving in towards center. Fall back to progressed places.
C2	Slow balance toward partner and away Full partner gypsy, R-shoulder.

Charlene's Celebration 4-couple longways set, 3/2 meter Gary Roodman, 2005 Prime Calculated Figures
A1	Mirror Hey for 4: 1s and 3s face down with hands joined, while 2s and 4s face up without hands joined. Do a hey-for-4 along the lines, joining hands with partner at the top & casting up at the bottom.
A2	In 2-cpl sets, R-hand star half-way, L-hand star back. Pousette CW half-way with partner. End cpls case to the center while middle cpls lead to the end.
B	In 2-cpl sets, 3 changes circular hey. In 4-cpl set, middle cpls face and change with each other, passing L-shoulder. In new 2-cpl sets, 1s corners cross, then 2s corners cross, circle 4 L half-way. (end progressed 2,4,1,3)

Dunham Oaks Longways duple minor, improper, 4/4 meter Brian Wedgbury,1973 Still Not Quite Playford
A1	Circle L once round. Keeping hands with neighbor, fall back and come forward.
A2	Pass partner R, turn R into L-hand star (end 1s proper, 2s improper)
B	Pousette partner CW half-way (men start forward), set to partner, set to neighbor. Back-to-back neighbor, 3 changes circular hey, starting with neighbor.

Elizabeth Longways duple minor, 3/4 meter Colin Hume, 1991 Dances with a Difference, vol 4
A	1s set, 2-hand turn half-way. Neighbors set, 2-hand turn half-way.
B	Partners back-to-back, circle L half-way, balance forward and back.
C	W R-hand turn half-way, partner L-hand turn. W R-hand turn half-way, opposite L-hand turn.
D	1s cross, go below, half figure-8 up while 2s wait, half figure-8 up (casting back down) and lead up. (Note: actions overlap. Each action starts half-way (2 measures) into previous action)

Fenterlarick Longways duple minor, 4/4 meter Joyce Walker, 1977 Staffordshire Silver Collection
A1	1st corners side (Sharp/swirl), set and turn single.
A2	2nd corners repeat.
B	Women lead through the men, cast back to place. Men lead through the ladies, cast back to place. Partners L-hand turn 3/4; 2nd corners R-hand turn 1-1/2 while 1st corners orbit CCW half-way; partners L-hand turn 3/4 to progressed places (with 1st corners flowing into A1 siding)

Part I
A1	Lead partner towards other cpl, fall back.
A2	Lead partner away from other cpl, fall back turning towards partner at the last moment.
B1	Tops cast down, following by their partners into line-of-4 facing up. Go forward and back, bending line into a closed circle.
B2	Circle L half-way, turn single R to face partner. 3 changes circular hey, starting with partner.

B	Face across the set, change places with new partner with 2 chasse steps, women passing in from of men. Step to R and honor this partner. Turn to face opposite direction, 2 changes of grand chain (R to corner, L to original partner). Waltz next partner to man's original place.

Honeysuckle Cottage Longways duple minor, improper, 3/4 meter Gary Roodman, 2003 A Finite Set of Calculated Figures
A	Women turn single, cross over. Face (original) neighbor, 2 changes circular hey. Original neighbors 2-hand turn half-way. Men turn single, cross over. Face partner, 2 changes circular hey. 2-hand turn partner half-way.
A2	Fall back with neighbor, come forward to R-hand star. Balance partner forward and back, change places with women turning under (a la Duke of Kent) Back-to back partner.

Mr. Beveridge's Maggot Longways duple minor, 3/2 meter Playford, 1695 Pat Shaw interpretation
A1	1s cross (as in Hole in the Wall), back-to-back neighbor.
A2	1s turn single (M R, W L) into R-hand turn with neighbor. 1s L-hand turn half-way.
B	1s cross and go below while 2s meet and lead up; 1s back-to-back while 2s cast into line-of-4 across the set facing up. All forward 3 steps and back; 1s cross and cast while 2s meet and lead up.

The Mulberry Garden Longways duple minor, 6/8 meter Playford, 1670
A1	All lead up-a-double and back. Repeat.
B1	Facing partner, fall back and come forward. 2-hand turn partner.

Introduction
A	Step and honor presence (Step R, bow or curtsey; repeat L). Step and honor partner. Lead up-a-double and back twice.
Dance
A1	Back-to-back partner R-shoulder. Back-to-back partner L-shoulder. 1s figure-8 thru 2s.
A2	Circle L half-way, fall back with neighbor. Partners cross, long turn R into... R-hand star, then L-hand star.
Finale (at leader's call)
A	Lead up-a-double and back twice. Step and honor partner. Step and honor presence.

The Pilgrim Longways duple minor, 6/8 meter Playford, 1721
A1	1st corners R-hand turn. All circle L half-way, turn single.
A2	2nd corners R-hand turn. All circle L half-way, turn single.
B1	1s half figure-8 down thru 2s (skipping). 2s half figure-8 up thru 1s.
B2	1s lead down, turn away and face up while 2s dance up outside, turn in and face down. 3 changes circular hey, starting neighbor (skipping).

The Prince of Westborough Longways duple minor, 3/4 meter Paula Kelly, 2009 CDSS News
A	Balance towards corner and out (hands not joined), turn single. R-hand star. Balance towards corner and out (hands not joined), turn single L. L-hand star.
A2	1st corners cross by L, turn R to face in while 2nd corners turn single and cross by R. All Circle L. Pousette CW half-way (M1, W2 starting); draw pousette half-way (W1 and M2 moving forward for the whole movement).

Quite Carr-ied Away Longways triple minor, 3/4 meter Pat Shaw, 1976 Between Two Ponds
A1	1st 2 cpls circle L half-way; cross with partner. M1 & M2 back-to-back while W1 & W3 back-to-back (top men & bottom women)
A2	Circle 3 (M1 with 3s, W1 with 2s). Back-to-back partner.
B1	1s (in middle place) R-hand into 1/2 hey-for-3s across the set (M1 with 2s, W1 with 3s. Pass R-shoulder to start). Turn L-hand (M1 with W2, W1 with M3) into 1s L-shoulder gypsy half-way into partner's place.
B2	Repeat B1, M1 dancing with 3s and W2 with 2s. All end proper and progressed.

Sun Assembly Longways duple minor, 2/4 meter Thompson, 1757
A1	Circle L half-way, fall back with neighbor. 2s gate 1s up into...
A2	1s half figure-8 thru 2s while 2s cross over after 1s have passed between them. Partners set and turn single.
B	R-hand star next cpl; L-hand star original neighbors. 1s lead down thru next 2s and cast up. All 2-hand partner.

Trip to San Jose Longsways duple minor, improper, 6/8 meter Diane Schmidt and Sharon McKinley, 1994 (for Cynthia Stenger and Dave Macemon)
Start line-of-4 facing up, 2s in the middle.
A1	Up a double and back. Circle L.
A2	Neighbors 2-hand turn. 1s 2-hand turn half-way and cast while 2s move up.
B1	With next cpl: 1st corners set and turn single; 2nd corners the same.
B2	With original cpl: 2s gate 1s up; 1s half figure-8 up while 2s meet and lead up to form a line-of-4 with the next 1s.

Trip to the Manors Two couple set, facing side walls, 2/2 meter Gary Roodman, 2000 A Number of Calculated Figures
Part I
A	In a double and back. Repeat.
B	Face partner, set and change places while turning single (as in Trip to Paris) Face neighbor and repeat, end facing away from other cpl.
C1	Lead partner toward side wall (M on R of partner), turn and lead back until R-shoulder with opposite. Turn to face that person in line-of-4. Half hey-for-4 up and down, R-shoulder opposite to start. End facing up or down next to opposite with back to partner (M on R)
C2	Repeat C1, leading opposite up or down to start and facing partner to start the half hey. End meeting partner in original home place.
Part II
A	Partners side R-shoulder (Shaw). Partners side L-shoulder.
