Triple Minor Longways

A 1-8 1st woman, followed by partner, cast below the 2nd couple (2s moving up), into a single file circle with the 3rd couple (ccw) once around.  1st couple, now in the middle, face up for . . .
9-16 Parallel heys along the lines, beginning by the R, back to places.
B1 1-4 Face partner (W2 and W3 will need a little extra flip at the ends of the lines to do this) and set and turn single into . . .
5-8 Circle hands-six halfway and fall back to lines.
B2 1-4 Face partner and set and turn single again.
5-8 1st corner people (original W3 and M2) change places; then 2nd corner people (original W2 and M3) change places.

5-8 CROSS, CAST, AND INVERT THE LINES: Each couple in turn lead up to the top, cross over, and cast down ( like a "cross trail through"). [Actually, the 3rd couple can simply turn as a unit to face down.]
[All improper, 3, 2 1.]
A2 1-4 With partner, go down a double and back.
5-8 CHANGE PLACES: Beginning at the bottom, each couple in turn change with partner (the 1s at the bottom, then the 2s, then the 3s, 3rd couple turn as a unit).
[All proper, 3, 2, 1.]
B1 1-4 Taking hands along lines, fall back and then set R and L.
5-8 All forward into back-to-back with partner
B2 1-2 Bottom couple (original 1s) lead up to face top couple (who turn to face them), as middles move down and face each other.
3-4 All set R and L.
5-8 Beginning with the person you are facing, three changes of (grand) Rs and Ls around the whole set.

CHARLENE'S CELEBRATION
A Longways for Four Couples
Prime Calculated Figures, 2005
Tune: Elizabethan Tango Man, Charlene Thomson, 3/2

A1 1-8 MIRROR-IMAGE HEYS FOR FOUR: 1st and 3rd couples face down, 2nd and 4th couples up, for a complete hey for four (begin 1s split 2s, 3s split 4s), back to places (3 beats per pass).
A2 1-4 Working in sets of two couples, R-hands across, then L-hands across back into . . .
5-6 Quick half pousettes (maintaining momentum) and
7-8 End couples cast into the center, as middle couples lead out to ends.  (This is a slight change from the original.)
B 1-3 Working in sets of two couples, do three changes of a circular hey (no hands) and . . .
4 Middles do a fourth change by the L in the "wrong" direction along the line (ends should just turn around and get ready to come back in).
5-6 In new two-couple sets, 1st corners cross, then 2nd corners cross.
7-8 Circle hands-four halfway.

A DOUBLE DUET

A1 1-4 Men (in 1st corner positions) set R and L to each other and turn single back to place.
5-8 All go back-to-back with partner.
A2 1-4 Women set R and L to each other and turn single.
5-8 All go back-to-back with neighbor.
B 1-4 With neighbor, take R-hand in R and balance forward and back.  Then change places, woman going under the man's arm (a la "Duke of Kent's Waltz").
5-8 R-hands across once around.
9-12 1st couple lead up through 2nd couple and cast back to place.
13-16 With new neighbor, R-shoulder gypsy once around (not mirror image).  End facing across the set to begin again.

EMERALD ISLE
"Beckett" Formation
Multiple Calculated Figures, 1999

A 1-4 With partner, face slightly to the left, pass through on the diagonal and courtesy turn once around to go directly into . . .
5-8 L-hands across once around.
9-12 R-hands across once around.
13-16 Form a ring of four, balance in and out, and everyone turn single R.
B 1-8 WEAVE ALONG THE LINE: Face partner and begin weaving along the line - pass partner by the R, next by the L, loop around the next by the R, and head back (weave across the ends of the set as needed).  Meet partner and R-shoulder gypsy once around into . . .
9-16 HALF HEYS ACROSS THE SET: Women begin heys for four across the set (passing L in the middle); men follow.  Meet partner on the other side of the set and waltz in place.  End by re-forming lines.

EMMA TURNS THREE
Sicilian Circle, Trio Facing Trio
A Finite Set of Calculated Figures, 2003

NOTE: These instructions are written as if the middle person is a man, with women on the ends, but three of anybody can do this dance.
 
A 1-8 HEYS ACROSS THE WAY: Men cross by the R and turn R into an (almost) complete hey for three with the women in the other trio (begin by passing by the R).  As the men are about to finish their heys, they meet in the middle and turn three-quarters by the R into . . . .
9-16 HEYS WITH YOUR OWN: Each man do a complete hey with his own folks, beginning with the person who was on his left as the dance began.  At the end of the hey, everyone face away from the other trio, men in the middle.
B 1-8 With this new trio, go forward and back in line; then balance forward and back, pass through, and turn back over R-shoulder into . . .
9-12 Back-to-back with the person you are facing, and . . . .
13-16 MARCH THROUGH TWO: Pass through two trios (the one you just danced with and your original trio) to meet a new trio.

GOOD MAN OF CAMBRIDGE
Duple Minor Longways

A1 1-4 1st and 2nd couples circle once around to places.
5-8 1st corners change places; then 2nd corners change places.
A2 From these new positions, repeat, to places.
B 1-4 SHORT LEADS: 1st couple lead down through the 2nd couple and immediately turn and lead back to place.
5-8 2nd couple lead up through the 1st couple and immediately turn and lead back to place.
9-16 INTERWOVEN FIGURE 8: 2nd couple cast up to 1st position and dance a half figure eight down around your original positions, while 1st couple move down to 2nd position and cast up to follow the 2nd couple into the half figure eight.  End the figure eight in a LINE OF FOUR facing down the set with the 2nd couple in the middle (men on the left of the line, women on the R).
C1 1-4 Lines of four lead down a double and fall back, everyone turning individually at the last moment to face up the set.
5-8 Lines of four lead up a double and fall back, end people pulling in at the last moment.
C2 1-4 M1 and W1 (on the ends of the line) cross, go below, and end facing up, while 2nd couple turn halfway and lead up (don't rush this) into ...
5-8 GATE FIGURE: M2, assisted by M1, and W2, assisted by W1, dance up through the middle and around to re-form the longways set. [You are now ready to repeat the dance with this new couple.]

HAND IN HAND
Duple Minor Longways Improper

A1 1-2 FIRST LINE OF THREE: W1 form a line of three, first giving R-hand to the man on the R (neighbor) and then L-hand to the man on the L (partner).
3-4 W1 lead the line of three diagonally forward to meet W2 and fall back, maintaining the lines momentarily.
5 Women change places and turn R to face along the lines, as
6 Men change places, face along the line, and
7-8 Everyone two-hand turn once with neighbor.
A2 1-2 SECOND LINE OF THREE: M1 form a line of three, first giving R-hand to the woman on the R (partner) and then L-hand to the woman on the L (neighbor).
3-4 M1 lead the line of three diagonally forward to meet M2 and fall back.
5 Men change places, turn R to face across the set, as
6 Women change places, face across the set, and
7-8 Everyone two-hand turn once with partner (Everyone back to original place.)
B 1 Men take L-hands in the middle; then
2 Men take R-hands with partner to form a line along the first diagonal.
3-4 With partner turn once by the R, into . . .
5-6 Half hey for four on the diagonal, beginning with men passing L in the middle.
7-8 Meet partner and gypsy R into progressed places.

7-8 With the next couple, circle L once around.

B1 1-4 FORM LINES OF FOUR: 1st couple cast down one place, go into the middle and do mirror-image turns single (begin turning up) to end facing down, while 2nd couple leads up and casts away to join on the ends of a line of four facing down.
5-8 In lines of four, fall back and come forward.
B2 1-4 PROGRESSION: Middle people (Couple 1) face end people and gypsy around, approximately 1 1/4 in the "men's" line (W1, M2), and 1 3/4 in the "women's" line (M1, W2) to meet a new neighbor for . . . .
5-8 With this new neighbor, two-hand turn once around and end facing partner.

3-4 Men change places and remain facing out; then women change places and face out for . . . .
5-6 Men "gate" the women around and into the middle, where they change places by the right shoulder and . . .
7-8 Two hand turn with partner (who is along the line) once around to end facing across the set with woman on the right.
B 1-2 With partner, fall back and come forward turning single into . . . .
3-4 Two quick changes of a circular hey (no hands) beginning with neighbor (who is across the set), and then gypsy with neighbor halfway into . . . . .
5-6 With that same neighbor, half pousette, women moving forward first.
7-8 Everyone cast over right shoulder, moving one place to the left around the circle and pass through.

A NEW BEGINNING
Longways for Three Couples

A1 1-8 M1 and W1 initiate cross-over heys (as in "Prince William"), M1 passing W3 by the R, W1 passing M3 by the L, back to places, except M1 and W1 who end improper.
A2 1-2 1st couple lead down the center to meet the 3rd couple (who pause a moment to eagerly await the arrival), while 2nd couple dance up the outside to 1st position. [Use all the music!]
3-6 1st and 3rd couples dance R-hands across once around, while 2nd couple turn by the RH once around.
7-8 Everyone turn single.
B 1-2 End couples lead forward to meet in the middle.
3-4 End couples retire, while middle people meet in the middle.
5-6 End couples go forward again and pass opposite by the R, while middles retire.
7-8 End couples cast away from partner and fall onto the ends of the lines, while middles half gypsy to change places.  (End couples have changed places; all couples proper.)
9-16 Everyone go back-to-back with partner and two­hand turn.

A1 1-4 1st corners (M1 and W2) turn by the R-hand approximately once and half until M1 is facing M2 and W2 is facing W1.
5-6 M1 go below M2 and then back to place, while W2 go above W1 and then back to place.
7-8 Everyone change places with partner
A2 1-4 FROM NEW POSITIONS, REPEAT THE FIGURE, REVERSING ROLES: M2 and W1 (now in 1st corner positions) turn by the R-hand approximately once and half until M2 is facing M1 and W1 is facing W2.
5-6 M2 go above M1 and then back to place, while W1 go below W2 and then back to place.
7-8 Everyone change places with partner (Everyone back home.)
B 1-4 Circle hands four halfway around and fall back six steps.
5-8 Everyone move forward three steps and then into three changes of a circular hey (no hands).  (Everyone improper but not progressed.)
C 1-4 1st couple cast into 2nd place and do a half figure eight up around 1st positions and end proper in 2nd place facing down, while 2nd couple cross up into 1st place, cast to 2nd place, and lead up to 1st place to end facing up for . . .
5-6 CLOVERLEAF TURN SINGLE (MORE OR LESS): Everyone turn single over outside shoulder to face back into the set.

TERPSÍCOURANTE
A Longways for Four Couples

A1 1-4 Working in sets of two couples, side-by-side R with neighbor and fall back.
5-6 Set R and L.
7-8 Turn single.

A2 1-4 With partner, side-by-side R and fall back.
5-8 Set R and L, and turn single.
9-10 Gypsy halfway with partner
B 1-4 With partner, R-hand turn once around.
5-8 Men change places; then women change places.
C 1-2 SERPENTINE PROGRESSION: Working in sets of two couples, circle halfway and, for an instant, continue facing the couple you circled with.
3-4 Couples 1 and 4 (standing back-to-back in the middle of the set) change places while keeping their backs to each other, M1 and M4 drawing their partners out and around the other couple (couple 1 moving down the set, couple 4 up) to face end couples.
5-6 With the couple you are facing, circle halfway until Couples 2 and 3 are standing back-to-back in the middle.
7-8 Couples 2 and 3 do the serpentine progression in the middle.
9-10 With the couple you are now facing, circle halfway.
11-12 Couples 1 and 4 do the serpentine progression in the middle.

TURNING BY THREES
Circle for Three Couples

A1 1-4 Taking hands, circle L (two bars) and then turn single left (two bars).
5-8 Taking hands, circle R and then turn single R.
9-12 With partner, go back-to-back (plenty of time for this) into . . .
13-16 Two changes of Rs and Ls (these are quick), followed by a R-hand turn with the next person once around into . . .
B 1-4 Men left hands across once around (back to these new places).
5-8 Women right hands across once around.
9-10 Men dance to the center with two single steps (step, close; step, close).
11-12 As men fall back, women dance to the center with two single steps.
13-16 Women look over R-shoulder and gypsy with this new man, about 1 1/4 around, back into the circle.
