Come to the BACDS English Dance and Music Week in Mendocino, California, from July 11-19, 2009

The Mendocino Woodlands camp lies deep in the redwood forest a few miles inland from the town of Mendocino, a four-hour drive north of San Francisco. This secluded, lush, and temperate setting imparts a special energy that has drawn dancers and musicians for many years.

Accommodations at the Woodlands are rustic redwood cabins, each housing two people. Each cabin, while without electricity, has its own stone fireplace and wooden balcony with views of the pond, the meadow, or the majestic redwood trees. Nearby bathhouses are equipped with electricity and plenty of hot water.

Throughout the day you'll have ample opportunity for dancing and music-making, but you may still find time for a walk in the surrounding forest or a swim in the nearby creek. At midweek members of the Mendocino Woodlands staff will offer a guided nature excursion, such as a trip to nearby tide-pools or an afternoon hike.

A significant number of campers suffer from heightened sensitivity to solvents and petroleum products, including perfume and fragrance. To deal with this serious health issue we've instituted a fragrance-free policy, so that we can open the dance floor to everyone. We provide fragrance-free soap, shampoo, conditioner, and hand lotion for camper use at all the bathrooms and hand-wash stations. Further details appear in your camper letter.

For your culinary pleasure, we have recruited a new caterer from Santa Cruz with a reputation for creative and diverse menus. Tod Nysether loves to cook good, healthful food, and it shows. He is the chef and owner of Simple Pleasures Catering in Santa Cruz, California. Tod specializes in cooking for retreats and is adept in preparing attractive, delicious and healthful meals that meet a wide variety of dietary needs. He has more than twenty years of experience cooking in a variety of different professional settings that range from summer camps and commercial kitchens to fine dining restaurants and full-service catering companies. He thinks that food is at its best when it is prepared with a combination of the freshest ingredients, simple techniques and love. Tod is passionate about his work and is continually inspired to provide people with an experience that reminds them of how deeply satisfying good food can be. Get ready to lick your plates!
