Cis Hinkel (GA)Cis Hinkle perpetually delights dancers with her welcoming and enthusiastic manner, clear instruction, and perfect selection of flowing contras and fast moving, western-style squares. George Marshall (MA)George Marshall, best known as a member of Wild Asparagus, specializes in calling New England-style contra dances smoothly and concisely. His is the art of languidly escorting dancers into high gear. Richard Powers (CA)Richard Powers, renowned historian and foremost expert in American social dance, is also noted for his choreographies for dozens of stage productions and films. He is currently on the faculty at Stanford University.s Dance Division. Kyla Brooke (CA)Kyla Brooke performs, teaches and choreographs ethnic and display dance. Uniting her interest in injury prevention and rehabilitation with her expertise in movement analysis, she maintains a private practice in Bodywork and Movement Education. Mary Lea (VT)Mary Lea is acknowledged for her rich tone, skilled expressiveness, and high-energy violin and viola playing in such bands as Bare Necessities, Childsplay and Yankee Ingenuity. Jim Oakden (CA)Jim Oakden, the programmer for this camp, plays in many bands of myriad styles and performs on an absurd number of instruments, from accordion and bagpipe through whistle and zurna. Margaret Ann Martin (CT)Margaret Ann Martin, whose family roots lie in folk songs of the American South, is also a devoted classical pianist and career teacher skilled with harpsichord, dulcimer, and guitar. Marty Brenneis (CA)Mary Brenneis was a rock-n-roll sound engineer in a former life. It wasn't long after he started contra dancing that he began twiddling the knobs on the soundboards for dances and, he hasn't stopped, yet. ![]() Annie Johnston (OR)Annie Johnston is acknowledged as the camp chef extraordinaire by dancers who have pleasurably indulged in her sumptuous meals. She generously provides cuisine with unequaled flavor and flare. Footloose ( More at Footloose's Website)David DiGiuseppe (NC)David DiGiuseppe, recognized for his fiery and emotive accordion, is equally at home playing contra and Cajun music in a dance hall, performing Irish tunes in a Opub or French musettes in a cabaret. Jim Roberts (TN)Jim Roberst' broad experience as a percussionist includes Zairian Soukous, Rhythm and Blues, Afro-Cuban, and Alternative types of contemporary music. He artfully twists the colors and textures of underlying sounds into dance music. John Davidson (TN)John Davidson is a classically trained Scottish fiddler fit for everything from formal orchestras to punk bands. He has composed for major Scottish theatrical productions and has recently completed a tour of the United States with "Irish Thunder." Pete Campbell (NC)Pete Campbell, zesty pianist (and zany teller of tall tales), plays for Contras, Squares, Scottish, English, and International Folk dancing. He is one of the most intriguing characters you will ever encounter! He deftly inserts elements of Klezmer, Latin American, jazz fusion and French Romantic music into New England fiddle tunes. Dave Bartley (WA)Dave Barley, skilled on mandolin, guitar, and cittern, glides from melody to harmony to rhythm to counterpoint, throwing in rock riffs, cross-rhythms, classical motifs and Eastern tonalities. Julie King (WA)Julie King's driving piano style is richly chordal, providing solid foundation and underlying tension while exploring the emotional range of the keyboard, from majestic to down and dirty. |
