BACDS American Dance and Music Week, July 1-8, 2006

Daily Schedule

(offering concurrent programs)

Perfect partner, music in the groove, not a care in the world, and I get to dance down the line and interact with forty of my closest friends. The week was great fun, smoothly run, inclusive, varied, extremely well planned, and a fine success

The Daily Schedule will provide ample opportunity for us to hone our skills in expertly taught classes and to share our own expertise during camper-led workshops. Rest and relaxation, singing and laughter will beckon us to the perpetual campfire at the Back Porch.

  • Warm-up & Stretch gently each morning before breakfast or, commune with the redwoods and sip your first latte prepared at the Fa-So-La Cafe
  • The "Quest for the Perfect Waltz" continues this year under the patient and perceptive guidance of Richard Powers. From One-Step and Ragtime to Tango, also flirt with the steps, the styles, and the idiosyncrasies of Twentieth Century Social Dance.
  • In the Caller's Forum, experienced and skilled callers can finesse tried-and-true dances or venture into new ones under the motivational guidance of Cis and George, two of our country's strongest teachers. New callers, find your voices during Open Mic.
  • Ever rhythmic and percussive, Kyla Brooke will focus on incorporating Clogging into other dance forms (contras, big circle and squares) while dancing with a partner. Never a still moment!
  • How is it that some people appear to float along the dance floor? How can dance and performance injuries be prevented? We are pleased to feature Kyla's expertise in Body Mechanics.
  • Sing the stories of American folk life. Margaret Ann Martin brings a lifetime of singing with family and friends, from Kentucky and North Carolina to Connecticut. Bring your own tunes, rhythms and harmonies to swap.
  • Designated for camper-led workshops, Grab Bag is class time for sharing talents, teaching skills and hosting discussions.
  • In the afternoons, expect the unexpected: parties, crafts, swimming in the river or exploring with a Woodlands naturalist. Luxuriate with a massage, peruse the well-stocked 24/7 Bookstore, scour The Two Ladies Chain clothing boutique or scrutinize the paperback library.
  • Discover Wee Hours Shenanigans at the Rock'n Road House or, perhaps, in a dimly lit Argentine Caflers and Scrabblers or unravel tall tales and tunes by the licks of the campfire.
