Music ... we can't dance without it!

Delve into the intimacy of Music all day long in focused workshops expressly for musicians. Bring your instruments of choice, your ability to learn by ear or notation, and your thirst to absorb the fundamentals as well as the intricacies of making music for dancers.

Strum, slide, squeeze, plink, pluck or strike with some of the most skilled teachers in the genre:

  • Mary Lea, cherished teacher and leader of the American Dance Musicians Course at Pinewoods, will give special attention to playing rhythmically and developing medleys and harmonic interest.
  • Highly regarded as a master at fitting tunes to dances, Dave Bartley will focus on the nuances of making music danceable and choosing tunes on-the-fly.
  • Fine-tune band and ensemble skills with wizard David DiGiuseppe, who will address listening, altering chord changes, accompanying instrumentalists or vocalists, arranging, improvising and much more.
  • Explore the rhythmic textures, contours and aural rumbles that make dancers fly! Creative percussionist Jim Roberts will be the guide.

Look forward to joining serendipitous ensembles, accompanying dancers during Early Morning Stretch and Open Mic and fortifying the dynamic Camper Band. Jam into the wee hours around the campfire or in the Meadow under the stars.
