The site is rather hard to find. For extensive directions, map links, Street View links follow this link to jump straight to the directions, or, more tediously scroll down until you can see the "Location" column.
The Woodshed sessions let callers and musicians try out new (or new-to-them) material. It is for both new and experienced callers/musicians/dancers.
As a caller, you can present dances—typically English or contra—and ask the dancers for feedback on both particular and general points. This isn’t only for the seasoned caller: it is an excellent opportunity for would-be callers to test the waters in a supportive environment.
When not calling, you are welcome to dance or play (or watch!)
As a musician, you can play dance tunes with experienced dance musicians. The band is open: it is best for players who can sight-read or learn by ear quickly and play up to dance tempo.
As a dancer, you can learn new steps and choreography, as well as practice figures you already know. All levels are welcome: we need feedback from both new and experienced dancers.
- Woodshed is FREE!
This program serves a valuable function for callers, musicians, and dancers. BACDS donates the rental expense.
- This is a working session
We experiment and discuss what works, as well as different ways of doing things. Dance geeks enjoy it very much.
Please join us! This is a great opportunity to see works-in-progress, influence old and new dance (re)creations, increase your skills, and have fun.
