Abbreviations and notes about the descriptions:

Dance format abbreviations:
  • 3CC - three couple set in a circle
  • 3CS - three couple set, usually longways
  • 4CS - four couple set, usually longways
  • 4CSq - four couple set in a quadrille or square
  • CirMix - Circle of couples, a mixer (partners change each time thru)
  • LDM - longways duple minor
 
  • L3M - longways triple minor
  • SicCir - "Sicilian circle", a circle of couple-facing-couple, like spokes on a wheel
  • ,I - 1st couple improper
  • ,2I - 2nd couple improper
  • ,2P - double progression
  • ,3P - triple progression
General descriptions
  • L and R are left and right, respectively
  • 1s, 2s, 3s, refer to 1st couple, 2nd couple, 3rd couple, &c, in a set
  • Instructions with while (and/or and) indicate two (or more) actions occurring at the same time
  • Cpl is short for couple; likewise Cpls is couples.
  • M and W are man and woman, respectively (as in M1 for 1st man, or W3 for 3rd woman).
 
  • "R and L" or "Rights and lefts" implies hands; "circular hey" implies no hands.
  • All turns, circles, &c, are once around if not otherwise specified.
  • Turn singles with no specified direction may be done as the dancer wishes.
  • In duple minor dances, "1st Corners" always refers to the dancers first man and second woman ("faces, not places")

  5-8 1s 2-hand turn partner.
  9-12 1s lead to top, cast down around 2s to middle.
  13-16 1s 2-hand turn 3/4 round and pull R shoulders back to finish back-to-back, M1 facing down, W1 facing up while 3s turn in, take nearer hands with M1 and while 2s face down and take nearer hands with W1.
B 1-2 All balance line forward and back.
  3-8 1s turn L-hand person by L, then turn R-hand person by R, ending on own sides in middle.
  9-12 All back-to-back partner.
  13-16 Tops (2s) 2-hand turn partner while bottom 2 cpls (1s & 3s) dance 3 changes R and L.
