I realized the room full of strangers had become a room full or friends.

The Bay Area Country Dance Society's American Dance and Music Week returns for our second year to the magnificent Mendocino Woodlands. A National Historic Landmark, this 700- acre camp is nestled in a quiet redwood forest inland from the coastal village of Mendocino, a four-hour drive north of San Francisco.

This secluded, lush and temperate setting offers an ideal environment in which to foster learning and leisure. Discover why people from Connecticut to Canada and Hawaii now share a unique connection, grown during a memorable week-longcamp.

We will immerse ourselves in all of the arts that have traditionally made up the fabric of American Dance and Music - from the dance forms themselves and the instrumental sounds that make us move our feet, to the songs and stories that chronicle and enrich our lives.

The daily schedule will provide ample opportunity for us to hone our skills in expertly taught classes as well as to share our own expertise during camper-led workshops. Rest and relaxation, singing and laughter will beckon as we gather around the perpetual campfire.

In the afternoons, serendipity will reign: instigate a theme party, craft playful ornaments, swim in the river, explore the woods with a camp naturalist, peruse the well-stocked bookstore, scour the clothing boutique, or pour through the paperback library definitely expect the unexpected.

Accommodations at the Woodlands are solidly-built, rustic redwood cabins each accommodating two people. While without electricity, the cabins feature stone fireplaces (with plenty of firewood available), and wooden balconies providing unobstructed views into the majestic redwood forest, over the pond, or across the meadow. Nearby bathhouses are equipped with electricity and plenty of hot water.

We are thrilled to feature Oregon's culinary master extraordinaire Annie Johnston, in cooperation with beloved Mendocino legend Jeff O'Connor. Savor incomparable meals! Campers with special dietary needs can also look forward to great satisfaction.

The organizers and staff of American Dance and Music Week promise to deliver a memorable learning experience wrapped in serious fun. Celebrate your passion for music and dance at a camp which will be a highlight of your year.
