Wednesday, February 4

The month leads off with Erik Hoffman calling contras at GNC in Berkeley. It'll be an Open Band led by Chuck Aronson, Rebecca King, & Lee Anne Welch.

In San José at SJS, the mighty duo of Jody McGeen & Alan Winston will lead dances to the fine tunes of Kay Thorne, Stan Kramer, & Vaughn Wolff.

Friday, February 6
The First Friday Palo Alto English dance at MT, with Bob Fraley and Nonesuch Country Dance Players (Ruth Anne Fraley, Susan and Stanley Kramer) .

Saturday, February 7
The rollickin' San Francisco contra at SF with genial host Charlie Fenton and music by that vivacious, viviparous band The Guppies (Kathrine Gardner, Jim Oakden and Craig Johnson).

Sunday, February 8
& It's the second Sunday Square/Contra at ECV! Starting at 7pm, join Jim Saxe and the wondrous dotGals (Susan Sullivan, Karen Warrick, Kathy Hirsh, and Adam Cavan).

Wednesday, February 11
Berkeley English dance at GNC. Alisa Dodson teaches to the fine tunes of Charlie Hancock, David Newitt, & Anise Feldman.

Friday, February 13
Calling all triskadekaphobes! You'd be pushing your luck to miss Kirston Koths calling at FIN with tunes by those wonderful New Englanders Reckless Abandon (Larry Unger, Nat Hewitt, & Carol Hamm).

Saturday, February 14
The SF English dance starts at 7:30 at BET, with Anise Feldman calling to the fine tunes of Stan & Susan Kramer, and Charlie Hancock

If your heart belongs to contras, come to the Palo Alto contra at PA as Eric Black leads the dance, to the music of Joe Craven, Daniel Steinberg, & Lee Anne Welch

Sunday, February 15 (and on into Monday, February 16)
& SCMCD Dawn Dance at "SCZ", 8PM-7AM! Celebrate the presidents with the fine old American custom of dancing 'til dawn down in Santa Cruz--great callers and musicians! Call (408) 423-5213 for more info.

Wednesday, February 18
The great Kate Charles from Baltimore calls the Berkeley contra at GNC; it's an Open Band led by Faultline (Betsy Branch, Paul Kotapish and Bobbi Nikles).

That little-known treasure, the San José English dance at SJS: Jody McGeen & Alisa Dodson teach all, to the music of Kay Thorne, Stan Kramer, and Vaughn Wolff.

Friday, February 20
The Palo Alto English dance at MT features Lise Dyckman and the music of Nonesuch Country Dance Players (Ruth Anne Fraley, Susan and Stanley Kramer)

Saturday, February 21
East Coast night at SF--come contra to Kate Charles (Baltimore) and the music of Reckless Abandon (Larry Unger (Boston), Nat Hewitt (NH), & Carol Hamm (NH))

Sunday, February 22
English at ECV? BACDS Playford Ball Workshop, led by Alisa Dodson and music by Charlie Hancock & Kathrine Gardner, 2-5 PM. For information call (650) 326-3665. Then a Hell Broke Loose Pot Luck at 5:30! (Bring a dish to share and $1 for rent)

& ECV The 7th Anniversary of the East Bay Square/Contra! Join the Cavalcade of Callers and Hell Broke Loose in Berkeley (community band--call Kathrine at 650-726-3495 to join in).

Wednesday, February 25
Fourth Wednesday Berkeley English dance at GNC Anise Feldman & Lise Dyckman sharing the calling, Chuck Ward, Dick Bagwell, & friends provide the tunes.

Friday, February 27
The topic's the tropics at SF as the Hillbillies From Mars (Ray Bierl, Kevin Carr, Paul Kotapish, & Daniel Steinberg) and Charlie Fenton preside over a "Bon Voyage" party and Hawaiian Shirt Contest. Come bid aloha to the band as they head out west on tour.

Saturday, February 28
David Newitt calls an evening of American longways dances at PA, music by that showy yet easy-to-feed band The Guppies (Kathrine Gardner, Jim Oakden and Craig Johnson).

While up north at the Fairfax contra at FCC, it's Stuart Moody calling, with Bobbi Nikles & Jerry Allen playing.

And finally, to round out the month, the East Bay experienced English dance at GNC features Jody McGeen calling to the mighty band of Mark Carroll, Avis Minger, David Mostardi, & Kimberly McKittrick.

General Notes

BACDS currently holds about twenty dances a month, with series on Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. All dances start at 8pm unless otherwise indicated.
Admission (unless otherwise noted): Wednesday dances, $6; Weekend (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) dances, $7. There's a $1 discount for BACDS and CDSS or CDS-affiliate members (that includes Santa Cruz/Monterey Country Dancers and the North Bay Country Dancers), with valid membership card.
A free beginners' orientation session is offered at 7:30pm for all Friday and Saturday contradances and for the Wednesday Berkeley English dances. We'll strive to keep this list current; just in case, BACDS phone hotlines are at (415) 282-7374 (San Francisco) and (650) 965-9169 (South Bay)
