Friday, December 13: Triskaidekaphobia (SPECIAL/CONTRA) at Hillside Club in Berkeley.
Join together to honor one of the instigators of contradance in the Bay Area. Kirston’s Berkeley dance, started in 1980, was instrumental in establishing contradance in this area and in building this community. Whether you danced with Kirston or not, this is a chance to celebrate our community and how we got here. Bring stories, photos and memories to share this evening. We will have refreshments (your contributions are encouraged) and social time, as well as an evening of dance. We will feature Kirston’s dances which were fun and clever in a way that will delight and challenge you. Be ready for “Nantucket Sleigh Ride,” which became popular in the ’70s, and Triskaidekaphobia which celebrates 2nd Fridays, like tonight. We will be led by a cavalcade of callers and musicians, many who worked and danced with Kirston throughout the years. Program coordinated by Eric Black and band by Daniel Steinberg and Rodney Miller. Calling will be Larks and Robins. In appreciation and in celebration of his contribution to this community we present this special evening.
