Directions to BACDS Dance Venues

This page lists driving directions to all venues currently used by BACDS dance series, camps, and events.

Regular Dance Venues

DanceGround Keriac, San Francisco

Address: 1805 Divisadero. (near Bush)

Website: None

Public Transit: Take either 38/38X Geary bus (which runs from downtown to Land's End), get off at Divisadero, or crosstown 24 Divisadero trolley, which stops across the street from the hall.

Driving:

East Bay/Peninsula
• Take US-101 Octavia exit. Cross market and continue north. Turn left on Fell.
• Continue west on Fell to Divisadero. Turn right.
• DanceGround Keriac is three blocks north of Geary, next door to "King of Falafel" on Divisadero.

North Bay
• Take the Lombard/Marina exit from Doyle Drive, just south of Golden Gate Bridge. Turn right on Divisadero.
• The hall is at 1805 Divisadero, on your right, just before Bush Street.

Parking: Street parking only - many spaces near hospital campus one block south of the hall.

First United Methodist Church, Palo Alto

Address: 625 Hamilton Avenue

Public Transit: Once CalTrain Weekend Service resumes, take CalTrain to Palo Alto station. From there, head into downtown Palo Alto on University, and continue to Webster. Turn right on Webster, and left on Hamilton. Total distance is roughly 4/5 mile, or 20-30 minutes walking time.

Driving:

• From East Bay locations:
  • Cross the bay via your bridge of choice (San Mateo or Dumbarton) and get to Southbound US-101.
  • Take US-101 to University Avenue offramp.
  • Head west (towards downtown Palo Alto) on University to Middlefield Road. Turn left on to Middlefield.
  • Go one block on Middlefield and turn right on to Hamilton.
  • First United Methodist Church is about 1-1/2 blocks down Hamilton, just before Webster.
• From Marin/San Francisco/Peninsula locations:
  • Get to Southbound I-280 or, if you are closer to US-101, follow directions above for East Bay locations.
  • Take I-280 to Sand Hill Road; exit at Sand Hill, and turn left to head into Palo Alto/Menlo Park.
  • Continue down Sand Hill to Arboretum; turn right onto Arboretum.
  • Continue on Arboretum to Palm Drive; turn left onto Palm.
  • Continue on Palm across El Camino Real, where it becomes University. Continue on University to High Street; turn right on High.
  • Go one block down High Street to Hamilton Avenue; turn left onto Hamilton.
  • First United Methodist Church is on Hamilton, just past Webster.
• From South Bay locations:
  • Get to Northbound I-280.
  • Take I-280 to Page Mill Road; exit at Page Mill, and follow the signs for Palo Alto.
  • Continue down Page Mill until it crosses El Camino Real, where it becomes Oregon Expressway.
  • Continue down Oregon Expressway to Middlefield Road; turn left on Middlefield.
  • Continue on Middlefield to Hamilton; turn left on Hamilton.
  • First United Methodist Church is about 1-1/2 blocks down Hamilton, just before Webster.

Christ Church Berkeley (Formerly Grace North Church, Berkeley)

Address: 2138 Cedar Street (Between Walnut and Oxford)

Public Transit: Take BART to downtown Berkeley station. From there, catch the AC Transit 7, 9, 18 or 19 bus at the stop in front of Games of Berkeley at the corner of Shattuck and Cedar. Get off at the corner of Cedar and Shattuck, and walk 1-1/2 blocks up Cedar. 18 is the one that runs back late enough to be useful after the dance, although it's also usually easy to get a ride back to the BART station.

Driving:

• Take I-80 to University Avenue offramp. Follow signs for downtown Berkeley and University of California.
• Continue on University Avenue to Shattuck Avenue; turn left onto Shattuck.
• Continue on Shattuck Avenue to Cedar Street; turn right onto Cedar.
• Christ Church Berkeley is 1-1/2 blocks up Cedar, between Walnut and Oxford.

Carriage House at Holbrook-Palmer Park, Atherton

Public Transit: 511.org SamTrans-KX line runs from Palo Alto Caltrain to corner of Watkins and El Camino.

In general, get to Palo Alto, go North on El Camino to Watkins, right on Watkins. After you cross the railroad tracks, H-P Park is on your right. Enter the second entrance, park in the parking lot near the water tower. The Carriage House is past the water tower.

Humanist Hall, Oakland

Address: 390 27th Street (between Broadway and Telegraph Avenue)

Public Transit: Take BART to Oakland 19th Street station. From there, exit on the east side of Broadway and take a northbound/Berkeley-bound AC Transit 51 to 27th Street. Humanist Hall is on the north side of 27th, just west of Broadway.

Driving:

• If coming from SF, the peninsula, Marin, or points north, get to eastbound I-580. Take the Webster Street/Broadway Auto Row exit, and follow the Broadway Auto Row South (Not Webster Street/Broadway Auto Row North) signs to Broadway. Turn right on Broadway.
• If coming from points south, get to westbound I-580. Continue to the Grand Avenue offramp, then exit at Macarthur Blvd (the offramp just after the Grand Avenue offramp). Veer right onto Macarthur Blvd as you exit the offramp, then continue to Broadway. Turn left onto Broadway.
• Once on Broadway, continue to 27th Street, and turn right.
• Humanist Hall is not quite a block down 27th Street, on the right-hand side.

Jane Lathrop Stanford Middle School, Palo Alto

• From 101 North: Take the Old Middlefield Way exit - Exit 399
• Turn slight right onto Old Middlefield Way
• Old Middlefield Way becomes Middlefield Road
• Turn left onto E. Meadow Drive

• From 101 South: Take the San Antonio Rd. South exit toward Los Altos
• Stay straight to go onto San Antonio Rd/San Antonio Ave.
• Turn right onto E. Charleston Rd.
• Turn right onto Middlefield Rd.
• Turn left onto E. Meadow Drive

• From Central Expressway/Alma Street: Stay Straight on Central Expressway
• Central Expressway becomes Alma Street
• Head East on E. Meadow

Palo Alto Masonic Temple, Palo Alto

Address: 461 Florence Street (Just off University)

Public Transit: Take CalTrain to Palo Alto station. From there, head into downtown Palo Alto on University, and continue to Florence. Cross and turn left on Florence; the Masonic Hall is a short ways down Florence from University Total distance is roughly 1/3 mile, or 5-10 minutes walking time.

Driving:

• Take US-101 to University Avenue offramp.
• Head west (towards downtown Palo Alto) on University to Florence. Turn right on to Florence.
• Palo Alto Masonic Temple is about 1/2 block down Florence, on right.

Parking: Municipal parking across Florence from hall.

Mountain View Masonic Temple, Mountain View

Address: 890 Church St (at Franklin, corner of Pioneer Park), Mountain View

Public Transit: Take CalTrain to Mountain View Station. From there, cross Castro, walk four blocks West on Castro Street to Church Street (far side of Pioneer Park), turn right on Church and go less than a block to 890 Church, on the right-hand side.

Driving:

• Take US-101 to Shoreline Boulevard offramp in Mountain View.
• Head west on Shoreline Blvd toward Mountain View (away from Shoreline Amphitheatre), approx. 1.5 mi; turn left onto Church St, 2 blocks to 890 (on left).

Parking: Street parking should be fairly easy.

Prospect Sierra Middle School, El Cerrito

Address: 960 Avis Drive (Corner of Moeser and Avis)

Public Transit: Take BART to El Cerrito Plaza station. From there, get to Central Avenue (north edge of station), then walk east (towards hills) to Richmond St. Turn left on Richmond, and walk north to Moeser. Turn right on Moeser, and continue uphill past Cerrito Vista Park to corner of Moeser and Avis. Prospect Sierra is across Avis from Cerrito Vista Park.

Driving:

• Take I-80/I-580 to Central Avenue Offramp. At Central, turn away from the bay.
• Continue east on Central Avenue to San Pablo Avenue. Turn left on San Pablo.
• Continue north on San Pablo Avenue to Moeser. Turn right on Moeser.
• Prospect Sierra School is ten blocks up Moeser at Avis, across from Cerrito Vista Park, on the right.

Parking: Small lot at hall. Street parking on Avis, or on Moeser across from or in front of Cerrito Vista Park. In consideration of Prospect Sierra's neighbors, please do not park on Moeser directly across from Prospect Sierra, and please keep the noise level low.

Prospect Sierra Elementary School, El Cerrito

Address: 2060 Tapscott

Public Transit: Take BART to El Cerrito Del Norte station. From there, walk north on either Key Blvd. or Kearney St. to Knott Avenue and turn right. Continue up Knott until you reach Hagen Blvd., and turn Right. Continue up Hagen to Tapscott, and turn Left. Continue up Tapscott to 2060 Tapscott.
Driving:

• From Points South:
  • take eastbound I-80 to Potrero Avenue. Turn right onto Potrero.
  • Continue on Potrero to San Pablo Avenue. Turn left onto San Pablo.
  • Continue on San Pablo to Hill Street (at El Cerrito Del Norte BART). Turn right onto Hill Street.
  From Points North:
  • Take eastbound I-580 or westbound I-80 to Cutting Blvd. Turn left onto Cutting.
  • Continue on Cutting to San Pablo Ave. Turn right onto San Pablo and get into left lane.
  • Continue one block on San Pablo to Hill Street. Turn left onto Hill Street.
• Once on Hill Street, continue to Elm Street, and turn left at Elm.
• Continue on Elm, veering right as it intersects with Key Street. Continue to Cutting Blvd.; veer right onto Cutting.
• Continue on Cutting to Wilson Way and turn left onto Wilson Way.
• Continue on Wilson one block to the intersection of Wilson, Hagen, and Canyon Trail. Turn Left onto Hagen.
• Continue on Hagen to Tapscott. Turn right on Tapscott.
• Look for 2060 Tapscott, about 3/4 of a long block up.

St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, Palo Alto

Public Transit: Take CalTrain to San Antonio station. From there, cross Central Expressway where safe, and walk north on Central (which becomes Alma at San Antonio) roughly 1/4 mile.

Driving:

• Take US-101 to San Antonio Road offramp; exit onto San Antonio towards Los Altos.
• Continue on San Antonio to San Antonio Way (just before overpass over railroad tracks); veer right onto San Antonio Way.
• Continue onto San Antonio Way to Alma/Central Expressway; turn right onto Alma
• St. Andrew's is about 1/4 mile down Alma, on the right.

Parking: Parking lot at hall.

St. Bede's Episcopal Church, Menlo Park

Public Transit: See Trip planner at 511.org for the messy details. The site is not well-served by public transit. You can get within a couple of miles on the SamTrans 83 bus to Sharon Heights, or you can take multiple Stanford University Marguerite shuttles to get from the Palo Alto Caltrain station to campus and then (changing shuttles) to get to the church, but you'll need to ask somebody for a ride back to the train station. We apologize for the bad transit access; we're in this hall because our very accessible regular hall in Palo Alto is being remodeled in summer 2008 and this was the best we could do. The hall itself is very nice. If you need a ride, try joining bacds-discuss and sending a request.

• From North or South: Take I-280 to the Sand Hill Road offramp
• Go West, toward Stanford University
• At Saga Lane (there's a left turn arrow; the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center is on your right, and Saga Lane is on your left) make a U-turn and proceed East on Sand Hill about a third of a mile.
• St. Bede's is on your right, at 2650 Sand Hill. Pull in and use their copious parking.

• From 101 or from Palo Alto: Take the University Avenue offramp and go East, toward Stanford University.
• Go straight as University enters the Stanford University Campus and becomes Palm Drive.
• Turn right on Arboretum through the Stanford Shopping Center and stay on until it tees into Sand Hill Road; get in one of the left-turn lanes.
• Turn left on Sand Hill.
• Stay on Sand Hill until you've reached St. Bede's on your right, at 2650.

Parking: No street parking, but St. Bede's has a big lot. Dances: Palo Alto English temporary location

St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, San Francisco

Address: 1399 43rd Avenue (Corner of Judah and 43rd Ave)

Public Transit: Take SF MUNI N Judah line towards Ocean Beach. Get off at corner of 43rd Avenue and Judah Street.

Driving:

• From Peninsula and South Bay locations:
  • Take I-280 to Northbound CA-1 exit; exit here and continue towards 19th Avenue/Golden Gate Bridge.
  • Continue down 19th Avenue to Irving; turn right on Irving.
  • Go one block to 18th Avenue; turn left onto 18th Avenue.
  • Go one block to Lincoln; turn left onto Lincoln.
  • Continue on Lincoln to 43rd Avenue; turn left onto 43rd Avenue.
  • St. Paul's Presbyterian Church is two blocks down 43rd Avenue, at the corner of Judah, on the right side.
• From Marin and North Bay locations:
  • Take US-101 across the Golden Gate Bridge to the CA-1 exit; exit onto CA-1.
  • Continue down CA-1 through the Presidio and Golden Gate Park to Lincoln; turn right onto Lincoln.
  • Continue on Lincoln to 43rd Avenue; turn left onto 43rd Avenue.
  • St. Paul's Presbyterian Church is two blocks down 43rd Avenue, at the corner of Judah, on the right side.
• From East Bay locations:
  • Take I-80 across the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge then stay in the second lane from the right.
  • Follow signs toward "101 North / GG Bridge."
  • Watch for sign "Octavia Blvd / Fell Street." Take Octavia / Fell exit.
  • Go straight off exit ramp across Market Street onto Octavia Blvd.
  • After 4 blocks, all lanes turn left onto Fell Street.
  • Continue on Fell. Once past Masonic, merge into the left two lanes. Turn left onto Kezar (just before Golden Gate Park, just past Stanyan).
  • Continue on Kezar as it curves around to the right onto Lincoln.
  • Continue on Lincoln to 43rd Avenue; turn left onto 43rd Avenue.
  • St. Paul's Presbyterian Church is two blocks down 43rd Avenue, at the corner of Judah, on the right side.

Parking: Street parking only. There is usually plenty of parking one block South, around the Francis Scott Key Elementary School at 43rd Avenue and Kirkham Street.

All Saints Episcopal Church, Palo Alto

Public Transit: Take CalTrain to Palo Alto station. From there, head into downtown Palo Alto on University, and continue to Waverley. Turn right on Waverley, and left on Hamilton. Total distance is roughly 3/5 mile, or 25-25 minutes walking time.

  • Continue down Page Mill until it crosses El Camino Real, where it becomes Oregon Expressway.
  • Continue down Oregon Expressway to Middlefield Road; turn left on Middlefield.
  • Continue on Middlefield to Hamilton; turn left on Hamilton.
  • Continue on Hamilton to Waverley (4 blocks); church is on Waverley near NE corner with Hamilton.
