Fall Frolick's English country dance leaders are:
Gene Murrow (NY) An English country dancer and musician since 1965, Gene Murrow has been teaching and calling at clubs, workshops, festivals, and balls throughout the United States as well as England, Europe, and Japan since 1988. In 1996 he organized the Amherst Assembly, a weeklong conference devoted to a scholarly and practical look at the origins and evolution of the country dance. The author of a resource guide and training curriculum on musicianship for English country dance teachers–the basis of a course offered at Pinewoods, Mendocino, and Berea–Gene approaches the English country dance as a medium in which dancers and musicians participate in the realization of works of art. His dance workshops strive to make their richness of structure, musical form, texture, and affect enjoyable and appreciated by dancers of all abilities.
Nikki Herbst (IA) An irrepressible dance gypsy who spends at least as much time on both coasts as she does at her home in Iowa City, Nikki has taught English country dancing at Marchfest weekend in Champaign-Urbana, at Terpsichore's Holiday in West Virginia, and at workshops and festivals throughout the Midwest. In the 1980s in California, she was on staff at Mendocino as a musician, and also cofounded the Ukiah contra dance series still running over 25 years later. As a teacher, Nikki's blend of instruction, demonstration, and cheerleading is aimed at inspiring dancers at all levels of experience.
Rosemary Hunt (UK) Co-editor with her husband Steve of the collection Dances from 1792, caller at dance weeks and weekends in the UK (Halsway Manor, Chippenham, Lichfield), Rosemary Hunt is the resident caller at the Wareham Folk Dance Club and organizer of the popular Purbeck weekend in Dorset. She also choreographs dances, setting many of them to tunes by Steve. On this, her first American visit, she will be calling both on the East Coast at CDNY's Weekend Whirligig and on the West Coast here at Fall Frolick.
Sharon Green -- A live wire sparking English dancing on both coasts and in several foreign countries, Sharon will bring us new dances and old favorites, including a sampling from the work of Fried De Metz Herman.
