Morris Dancing on May Day!

Here is a listing of Bay Area sites where local teams will be dancing up the sun on Friday, May 1st. Dancing should start at 6am or so.

Berkeley

Berkeley Morris wil be joined by Emperor Norton's Guard in dancing at Inspiration Point, in Tilden Regional Park located in the hills above Berkeley. A truly scenic stand and one that always draws a crowd, Inspiration Point is the ur-Morris Bay Area May Morning site. Following that, there'll be danceing at the Berkwood-Hedge School at 1809 Bancroft (9:30 to 10); at College and Bancroft from 12:30 to 1:15pm, and then at the Berkeley BART Station from 3 to 3:30. Contact Nick Cuccia (510) 597-0880 or cuccia@talamasca.com for more info.

Palo Alto

The Baylands, at the end of Embarcadero East (turn left at the end of the road, park at the Interpretive Center and walk onwards) hosts the triple threat of Mayfield Morris and Sword, Deer Creek Morris Men and Mad Molly. A pre-dawn rendition of the Abbots Bromley Horn Dance starts things off, and the performance ends with everyone joining in "Sellenger's Round" (a/k/a "The Beginning of the World.") Strong coffee and tasty pastries are traditionally served at this most civilized of stands, hard by "Concretehenge," a mysterious relic of subdivisions past.

Santa Cruz

Seabright Morris and Sword will be dancing up the sun at Santa Cruz' Lighthouse on West Cliff Drive, and then will proceed to dance throughout the day at a number of sites: the Santa Cruz Homeless Garden, outside Bookshop Santa Cruz on the Garden Mall, and then outside the Main Santa Cruz Post Office.

San Francisco

Goat Hill Morris, the newest side in the Bay Area, will be dancing up the sun on the east side of Twin Peaks Boulevard, and then committing various sorts of Mayhem throughout the day in the City.
